The Orvis Company has been a supporter of the American Museum of Fly Fishing since our inception in 1968. After the Manchester location served as our “roommate” during the Museum’s infancy, The Orvis Company has continued to champion the American Museum of Fly Fishing’s efforts to preserve fly fishing history and educate the surrounding community. Orvis was a major sponsor of our groundbreaking A Graceful Rise exhibition which debuted in the Leigh Perkins Gallery in 2011 as well as the online exhibition that was released in 2014. The Orvis Company has pledged to our cause yet again in contributing to our upcoming saltwater exhibition. Orvis is also a sponsor of our Fly Fishing Festival, our 8th annual installment on August 11, 2015 saw over 500 people grace the Museum grounds thanks to the support of Orvis and other local contributors. From its beginnings here in Manchester to its current position as the biggest player in the fly fishing tackle industry Orvis remains committed to getting involved in efforts to preserve history, conserve the waters that we fish, and teach and inspire a new generation of fly fisher men and women.

Since 2014, Three Forks Ranch has been a significant supporter of the American Museum of Fly Fishing through our annual Heritage Event. Situated on the Wyoming and Colorado border, the 200,000 acre property compliments nature’s splendor and offers a luxurious hunting and fishing lodge to relax and rejuvenate. In the recent years the Museum has embarked on a mission to become the repository of water conservation history, which makes Three Forks Ranch’s story even more captivating…After spending years searching for the perfect Western ranch, David Pratt set his eyes on Three Forks Ranch. Looking for a cattle ranch with mountains, river and solitude, his alluring dream began to take shape in this Sierra Madre paradise. He found all the pieces to the puzzle — and one significant challenge. More than a century of misguided agriculture had turned the headwaters of the Little Snake River into a wide, shallow, muddy torrent. So, upon purchasing three Forks ranch, he embarked on an incredible endeavor — to execute the most extensive, privately financed river restoration project in the history of America. Construction began in 2000, with 25 pieces of heavy equipment narrowing and deepening the entire 16 miles of the Little Snake River and its tributaries that lie within the boundaries of Three Forks Ranch. Stretches of the river were realigned to optimum sinuosity, preventing future erosion. The entire river was deepened and narrowed to a third of its original width. Two thousand structures were placed in the river diverting the velocity of the water away from the banks to the center of the stream. Bank erosion was halted and sediment transport enhanced by this design. Thousands of willows were transplanted on river bends to further stabilize the banks and provide shade to cool the water. The headwaters of the Little Snake River are now protected from the raging spring floods. Cool, oxygen-enriched water falls over each of the stabilizing rock structures. Deep pools provide excellent habitats for Rainbow, Brook and Colorado Cutthroat trout. Insect hatches returned, blackening the sky and providing food for the hungry trout. David Pratt did the heavy lifting. Mother Nature put on the finishing touches. The Little Snake River was back.

Ted Turner Expeditions- Ted Turner, the American media mogul who is best known for starting CNN and the “superstation” concept, is now one of the most influential philanthropists who supports clean energy, improvement of water and air quality, wildlife habitat protection, and environmental health. Turner wishes to share his complete love of nature, wildlife and discovery in order to help all generations develop a keen appreciation for and awareness of what our Earth has to offer and just as importantly, a shared responsibility for the well-being of our environment. After much thoughtful consideration, Turner has established a way in which to achieve this through the launch of Ted Turner Expeditions. Mr. Turner has been a supporter of the Museum’s mission through his personal foundation since 2015 and now through Ted Turner Expeditions!
