Henry Sullivan Thomas designed the S. Allcock & Co. Ltd. Mahseer reel for breaking the heavy runs of large fish, specifically the mahseer, a powerful native gamefish of India, Nepal, and Pakistan described in Thomas’ book The Rod in India. Related to the carp family, the mahseer grows to 120 pounds (30 pounds is reportedly more common), is capable of initial runs of 100 yards, and is known for its stubborn resistance even on heavy tackle.
