Fred Polhemus is considered one of America’s leading experts on Contemporary Sporting Art. His expertise has been developed over the past 30 years with companies and organizations such as Greenwich Workshop, Imagine Entertainment, International Game Fish Association, Mystic Seaport Museum, The Orvis Company, Dreamworks, Newport Harbor Nautical Museum and Universal Studios. His writing on sporting art has appeared in many publications including Anglers Journal, Covey Rise, Cowboys & Indians Magazine, Gray’s Sporting Journal, Sea Island Life, The American Fly Fisher, Virginia Sportsman, Western Art & Architecture and Wildlife Art Magazine, among others. He is the nation’s foremost authority on the paintings of Arthur Shilstone, and is the author of Arthur Shilstone: A Lifetime of Drawing & Painting, the only comprehensive book on the 70-year career of today’s premier sporting art watercolorist Arthur Shilstone. In 2011, he curated Shilstone’s 70-year retrospective exhibition. For over 13 years he has served on the Board of the American Museum of Fly Fishing in Manchester, Vermont. He represents over 24 of the top sporting artists through Sportsman’s Palette, Inc. and Orvis Sandanona, Millbrook, NY providing specialized guidance to private and institutional sporting art collectors worldwide.
